Xerjoff
Erba Pura
Fruity · EDP · 2019 · Christian Carbonnel
Fruit over white musk, finished with vanilla. The turquoise Casamorati bottle is the easy part. On skin the sweetness stays in the room longer than the citrus does.
Context
Erba Pura sits in the Casamorati line, the 1888 collection Xerjoff uses for its more decorative bottles. Christian Carbonnel built it as citrus and white fruit over musk, vanilla, and amber. The gold cap and the turquoise flacon do a lot of the selling. The juice does the rest, and it does it loudly.
On the record
The opening is orange, bergamot, and lemon, cut with a white peach that turns creamy once the musk arrives. Orange blossom keeps it from reading as juice alone. The drydown is vanilla and amber under that musk. Published wearing notes and the desk’s own passes on the line agree on one point: the fruit fades, the sweet musk does not. Longevity is the reason people forgive the price. Projection is the reason other people do not.
Value
Casamorati pricing sits with the rest of Xerjoff, which is to say a bottle is a decision. Per millilitre it loses to almost every fruity musk under it. You pay for the bottle, the trail, and the fact that people already know the name.
Verdict
Decant first, even if you like sweet juice. Ten millilitres will tell you whether the musk still feels like a compliment on day three, or like a room you cannot air out.

Before a bottle
Ask for 2 to 10 ml. Wear it three times on your own skin. A blotter will not tell you what hour four smells like.
