Parfums de Marly
Layton
Woody · EDP · 2016
Sweet apple, vanilla, and wood, with a floral heart. Loud, long-lasting, and broadly pleasant, which is why it became a hit and a compliment machine. Inside niche circles it is argued over for being too easy. It is also the main Parfums de Marly counterfeit target in Russia.
Context
Layton is the loudest Parfums de Marly hit, and one of the most discussed “affordable niche” bottles in Russia. Apple, bergamot, and mandarin open it. Jasmine, rose, and violet sit in the heart. Vanilla, tonka, guaiac, and sandalwood close it. The formula aims to please almost everyone. In niche, that is both the selling point and the complaint.
On skin
The opening is sweet apple and citrus. After 30 minutes a floral-vanilla heart comes forward. Longevity is outstanding, 8 to 10 hours and often longer. Projection is strong for the first 3 to 4 hours, with a clear trail. In heat it turns cloying. In the cold it is a comfortable bomb. People nearby often react well.
Fakes
Layton is the main Parfums de Marly counterfeit. Avito and Telegram are full of “testers” at a half or a third of retail. Those are almost always fake. The original has a dense, clean base. Fakes often smell boozier and flatten into apple-caramel. Buy from authorized sellers, check the batch code, and verify with a decant.
Verdict
A strong pick if you want a loud, broadly pleasant niche scent for cold weather. The price per millilitre beats Tom Ford. The “for everyone” profile is still a fair argument against it. Wear a decant and see if the sweetness is too much. Skip it if you avoid compliment magnets and want a sharper character.

Before a bottle
Ask for 2 to 10 ml. Wear it three times on your own skin. A blotter will not tell you what hour four smells like.
