What we compare
Baccarat Rouge 540 is the most discussed niche fragrance of the decade: glowing saffron, amber, and musk. Parfums de Marly Layton is sweet apple, vanilla, and wood, a compliment machine. Both are sweet, loud, and built for cold weather. The characters diverge.

When BR540
You want a singular glowing character and you can live with a split room. On someone else’s skin it can read as burnt sugar or as rubbing alcohol. A decant is required. The Extrait is denser and sweeter. The EDP is louder.
When Layton
You want a loud niche scent for cold weather that pleases almost everyone. A compliment magnet. Lower risk that it misses on skin, and less of a signature. Inside niche it gets blamed for being too easy.
Price and risk in the CIS
Both sit near the top of the fake list in Russia. BR540 is the most cloned niche fragrance in the world, with dozens of “inspired by” bottles. Layton is the main Parfums de Marly counterfeit. Buy only from authorized sellers, check the batch code, and match the smell with a decant. On price, Layton is easier.
Verdict
Different jobs. BR540 is for people who want the split and the signature. Layton is for “pleasant to almost everyone” and for compliments. If you are unsure, decant both. On value Layton is slightly ahead. On character, BR540 is the more interesting one.
